Sustainable Las Vegas is dedicated to fostering a sustainable local community and economy. Our primary goal is to promote increased use of solar and other renewable forms of energy, conservation of natural resources, and other sustainable practices. We provide education and expertise to the Las Vegas area on these issues.
Rocket Stoves Workshop
Sustainable Las Vegas will be giving a free, hands-on workshop on rocket stoves at the Las Tusas Ranch at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 28. Rocket stoves are a brilliant, low tech, low cost method of heating with small-diameter firewood (even twigs) efficiently and cleanly. The workshop will cover basic theory, and will include building a functioning mini-rocket stove out of a number 10 can and three soup cans. Construction of a 16 brick rocket stove will also be demonstrated. Those interested in participating, please call Lee Einer at (505) 454-9079. Participants are encouraged to bring work gloves, tin snips and soup cans. The Las Tusas Ranch is near Sapello. To get there, drive north on 518 to the Sapello turn-off (by the gas station.) Drive roughly a half mile to the 266 turn-off on the left. Take that for another 2.5 miles. Be on the lookout for Rodgers Road on the left, and take that to the end. We'll see you there!
